On March 28, the Data Science and AI Institute hosted an event celebrating Women’s History Month with leading women in the fields of data science and AI. The event featured a dynamic panel discussion led by four distinguished Johns Hopkins women faculty members, and a poster session showcasing innovative research.

The panel discussion was moderated by Paulette Clancy, Edward J. Schaefer Professor in Engineering Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and Research Director of Discovery and Inquiry in the Data Science and AI Institute. Panelists included Angie Liu, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science; Luana Ruiz, assistant professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics; Natalia Trayanova, the Murray B. Sachs Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering; and Soledad Villar, assistant professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics.

The “Best Poster” winners were:

Lakshmi Chanemougam in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, “Enhancing context-specific eQTL calls using imputed scRNA sequence genotypes.”
Stella Ineza Ndahiro in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, “Understanding women’s lacrosse offense through dynamic Voronoi diagrams.”
Basudha Pal in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, “Bias mitigation in sensitive attributes using diffusion models.”

The “People’s Choice” for best poster was:
