The Johns Hopkins Data Science and AI Institute (DSAI) invites Johns Hopkins undergraduate (rising juniors or seniors) and graduate students to apply for the DSAI Summer 2026 Internship Program, a 10-week immersive experience designed to connect students with cutting-edge research projects across Johns Hopkins University. Selected interns will join faculty-led projects that apply data science and AI methods to meaningful, applied research. Students will also be advised and mentored by faculty and DSAI research software engineers. This program offers an excellent opportunity to deepen technical skills, gain hands-on research experience, and collaborate with faculty, software engineers, and peers in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.
Internship Program Highlights
- Full-time, in-person 10-week summer internship located at the Johns Hopkins Mt. Washington campus, fostering collaboration through shared workspaces, cohort activities, and training sessions with fellow interns
- Mentorship from faculty and DSAI research software engineers

Eligibility
We encourage motivated students from all relevant disciplines to apply and join us in advancing data science and AI research at Johns Hopkins. Please note:
- Intern applicants must remain active, full-time undergraduate or graduate students in good standing enrolled at Johns Hopkins. Undergraduates must be rising juniors or seniors.
- Students of any citizenship and nationality are eligible
- Students must have experience with data science and AI methods and tools

To be considered, applicants must submit:
- A statement of interest describing your background, research interests, experience with AI methods and tools, and goals for the program
- A current CV or resume
- A copy of your current transcript
- One letter of recommendation from a JHU faculty member

What is the goal of the Data Science and AI Institute internship?

Outside of project-related work, what happens during the internship?

No. A committee of DSAI faculty will match interns with projects based on their skills, interests, goals, and in-person interviews, ensuring a strong fit and rewarding experience for everyone.
Who is an ideal intern?
A highly motivated, curious student with an interest in data science and AI, relevant coursework, and a desire to apply their skills in a research setting and collaborate with others.
Who is eligible to apply?

Who should my recommender be?
Your recommender should be a faculty member who can speak to your academic abilities, skills with data science and AI, and potential for success in a research environment. Be sure to give recommenders time to write a thoughtful letter.
Do I need to be a U.S. citizen to apply?
No. Students of all citizenships and nationalities are encouraged to apply.
What are the start and end dates for the program?
The internship runs from Monday, June 1, 2026, through Friday, August 7, 2026. Juneteenth and the Fourth of July will be observed as university-wide holidays.
Is the program in person or remote?
The program is a full-time, in-person experience designed to foster collaboration and engagement.
Where does the internship take place?
The internship is held at the Johns Hopkins Mt. Washington campus, where interns will work in shared spaces alongside other members of their cohort.
Can I take a week off during the summer for a conference, wedding, vacation, etc.?
Because this is a full-time, immersive program, interns are expected to participate for the full 10 weeks. Any scheduling conflicts should be discussed in advance.
What compensation will interns receive for the program?
Interns receive $10,000 for the 10-week program, paid bi-weekly.
